As an artist I create outside of the materialistic interpretation of reality, a perspective which predominates the modern western world. I say that my art is Magical. By this, I mean that it has power beyond scientific understanding, and communicates beyond the well-traveled roads of rational though. At best, it facilitates a moment of intimate contact with the numinous:
[noo-muh-nuh s, nyoo-]
1. having a strong religious or spiritual quality; indicating or suggesting the presence of a divinity.
2. surpassing comprehension or understanding; mysterious
I do not make art for the mind to understand, I make art for the spirit to recognize and befriend.
Anytime in my life that I've attempted to place my art in the context of modern critical theory, I've watched it struggle against the bars of a cage, the color & vibrancy draining from it's visage. Thus, I call myself a Mystic, a Maker of Talismans, a Crafter of Compasses. It is my wish that my creations bring direction and meaning to those who deign to let their eyes wander over the parade I am privelaged to bring forth.
Thank you so much for visiting.
